Co-founder, with his uncle by marriage, James Peek (1800-1879), of Peek, Frean & Co., in 1857. A native of Devon, he had married Hannah Peek of Kingsbridge, a daughter of James Peek's brother Samuel, in 1853 and was invited by James Peek, who had long been a partner in the firm of Peek Brothers & Co., in the City, to come up to London and join him in founding the new firm of Peek, Frean & Co. George Hender Frean retired from the firm in 1887. Chairman, James Peek Trust in 1877.
