- Second of the eighteen children of Thomas Short of Birmingham. The mother of Thomas Short, junior, was his father's first wife, nâee Harriet Noake (1800-1847). Thomas Short, junior, was himself twice married, first to Anne Phillpot (died 1880) and secondly (in 1882) to Marion Devaran. There was no issue of the second marriage.
