Notes |
- His uncle Samuel Peek, who died childless with his wife Caroline in the wreck of the "Dunbar" off South Heads, Sydney, on 20 August 1857, left a large sum of money in his will to be used for the education of his nephew Harry Hazelwood Peek, and, in particular, after the age of seventeen, at Oxford University. Harry Hazelwood Peek was duly sent to England at the age of seventeen to prepare for Oxford, his father's uncle, James Peek senior (1800-1879), being appointed his guardian. By a strange coincidence, however, soon after his arrival and before he could enter the University, Harry Hazelwood Peek also died by drowning at Taunton, Somerset in 1863. His guardian James Peek senior arranged for him to be buried with his English relatives in the Peek Family Catacombs at Hazelwood.
